NSF Funding to Continue For Show-Me Seminar

The National Science Foundation has provided funding for the Show-Me Seminar to continue for another five years. The Show-Me Lectures is a series of meetings in mathematical analysis organized by the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Missouri-Rolla and Washington University in St. Louis.

Show-Me Lectures on many topics of analysis have been delivered by prominent mathematicians from all over the world. Subjects have included analysis on groups, Banach space theory, differential equations, harmonic analysis and probability theory.

Attendance at Show-Me Lectures is open to a general audience, providing opportunities to explore possible connections in research.

“Many quality collaborations have been accomplished as a result of these meetings and several more have been initiated,” says Loukas Grafakos, a Show-Me Lectures organizer. “We believe these collaborations benefit the researchers involved and strengthen the field of mathematical analysis as an entity.”

Mathematical analysis provides the foundation for applied mathematics, physics, astronomy and other areas, and is considered a dynamic and applicable area of mathematics with roots that can be traced back to the early calculus years.

“The objective of our meetings is to stimulate and promote interaction among the different groups of mathematical analysis.” Grafakos says. “We hope to bring together areas that have become distant because of the rapid growth of the field.”
