Qualification Criteria for Math 1100 or 1120

To qualify for enrollment in College Algebra at MU (MATH 1100 or MATH 1120) a student must satisfy ONE of the following requirements:

  1. Has obtained a grade in the C range in Intermediate Algebra at MU (MATH 0110) or other institution of higher learning.
  2. Has an officially documented ACT math score of 22 or higher.
  3. Has an officially documented SAT math score of 520 or higher.
  4. Has a score of 22 or higher on the MPECA test.
  5. Has a score of 19 or higher on the Missouri Math Placement Test (MMPT).

*MPECA can be taken at most once a year with at least one full academic year between tests. IMPORTANT: According to this policy, students who took the MPECA in SS2005 or FS2005 are not eligible to retake the test in WS2006.

For a complete description of the MPECA visit http://www.math.missouri.edu/courses/placement/mpeca.html.

We strongly advise students who did not have a math course for more than one year to take the MPECA to determine their readiness for MATH 1100 or MATH 1120.

Transfer students who did not take an ACT or SAT test, and do not satisfy criteria 1) should take the MMPT test first if they consider the option of enrolling in calculus directly. Otherwise, it is recommended that they take MPECA to determine if they should enroll in MATH 0110 or College Algebra (Math 1100 or 1120).
