DEPARTMENT POLICIES
FOR MATH COURSES
- Skip Math 1100 or 1120 with ACT math score of 26, or with MMPT of 26, or with SAT math score of 600. [Note that 26 on ACT math score allows students to skip 1100, but they do not get credit based on an ACT or SAT score.]
- Credit for Math 1100 or 1120 if MMPT is at least 26.
- Math 0110 carries 3 units of credit, but these units do not count toward any baccalaureate degree.
- Math 1360 is an MRP course for elementary education majors.
- A minimum of "C-" in Math 1100 or Math 1120 when it is a prerequisite.
- At most 5 units of credit may be earned in 1100, 1120, 1121*, 1140, 1160, 1180.
- Students with one calculus course (C range grade) satisfy the MRP requirement.
- Math 1100 is for calculus (e.g., 1320 [61] or 1400 [108] ) bound students. Math 1120 is for others (these are equally hard courses.)
- Math 1160 and 1180 are for students headed for Math 1500.
- Math Department MRP courses = 1300, 1320, 1360, 1400, 1500
- Credit for 1360 with score of 19 on the geometry test given at testing services.
- Students do not get credit for Math 1100 by taking Math 1300.
*Math 1121 is subject to approval on the campus level.

Advanced Standing Credit Policy
(effective Fall 2005)
C in calculus, 1320 or 1400, at MU gives credit for 1100:
If a student takes Math 1320 or Math 1400 and gets a C- or above, then he/she will automatically be awarded 3 credits for Math 1100, College Algebra, assuming that he/she has not been given credits for a course equivalent to Math 1100.
C in calculus, 1500, 1700, or 2300, at MU gives credit for 1160 (or equivalent):
If a student takes Math 1500, Math1700, or Math 2300 and gets a C- or above, then he/she will automatically be awarded 5 credit hours for Math 1160, Precalculus, assuming that he/she has not been given credits for courses equivalent to Math 1160. In case a student has received credit for Math 1100 prior to the completion of Math 1500, Math 1700, or Math 2300 with a grade of C- or above, the student will receive additional credit for Math 1140, Trigonometry (credit should not be awarded for both Math 1100 and Math 1160).
B in Math 1700 at MU gives credit for 1500 and 1160 (or equivalent):
If a student takes Math 1700 and gets a B- or above, then he/she will be awarded credits for Math 1160 and 1500, assuming that he/she has not been given credits for courses equivalent to Math 1160 and Math 1500. In case a student has received credit for Math 1100 prior to the completion of Math 1700 with a grade of B- or above, the student will receive additional credit for Math 1140 and Math 1500 (credit should not be awarded for both Math 1100 and Math 1160).
B in Math 2300 at MU gives credit for 1700, 1500 and 1160 (or equivalent):
If a student takes Math 2300 and gets a B- or above then he/she will be awarded credits for Math 1160, Math 1500, and Math 1700, assuming that he/she has not been given credits for courses equivalent to Math 1160, Math 1500, and Math 1700. In case a student has received credit for Math 1100 prior to the completion of Math 2300 with a grade of B- or above, the student will receive additional credit for Math 1140, Math 1500, and Math 1700 (credit should not be awarded for both Math 1100 and Math 1160).
Credit by Examination:
- Students may receive credit for Math 1160 and Math 1500 by receiving a 3 or higher on the AP test (AB calculus test). [However, students with only a 3 are advised to take Math 1500 if they plan on taking Math 1700.] In case a student already has credit for Math 1100, he/she will receive credit for Math 1140 instead of Math 1160 (credit should not be awarded for both Math 1100 and Math 1160).
- Students may receive credit for Math 1160, Math 1500, and Math 1700 by receiving a 3 or higher on the AP test (BC calculus test). [However, students with only a 3 are advised to take Math 1700 if they plan on taking Math 2300.] In case a student already has credit for Math 1100, he/she will receive credit for Math 1140 instead of Math 1160 (credit should not be awarded for both Math 1100 and Math 1160).
- Students may also receive credit for Math 1500 and/or Math 1700 by taking a test administered by the Mathematics Department.
