Double-diffusive convection in a porous medium in the presence of vibration
Abstract: This work investigates the effect of vertical harmonic
vibration on the onset of convection in an infinite horizontal layer of a
binary fluid mixture saturating a porous medium. The mathematical model
is described by equations of filtrational convection in the
Darcy-Oberbeck-Boussinesq approximation. Linear stability analysis of
the quasi-equilibrium state is performed using Floquet theory.
Employment of the continued fractions method allows us to derive the
dispersion equation for the Floquet exponent in the explicit form.
Asymptotic formulas are derived for the case of high vibration frequency
using the method of averaging.
