Steady free-surface waves with vorticity
Abstract: The classical water-wave problem finds free-surface waves on a
two-dimensional fluid domain with gravity and surface tension acted on,
subject to the boundary condition that the constant atmospheric pressure
exerts stresses on the liquid surface. I will establish existence
theories of various types of steady waves with general distribution of
vorticities; periodic deep-water waves as an application of generalized
degree theory and abstract theory of global bifurcation, and solitary
waves of small amplitude via a generalized implicit function theorem of
Nash-Moser type. The effect of vorticity will be discussed.
