Applications of the Fourier Transform
to Convex Geometry

Abstract: This talk concerns the following two famous problems: the
Busemann-Petty problem and the Shephard problem. Let K and L be
centrally symmetric convex bodies. The Busemann-Petty problem assumes
that the central sections of K have smaller volume than do the
corresponding sections of L and asks whether the volume of L is
necessarily smaller than that of L. The Shephard problem is the
analogous question for projections instead of sections. We will talk
about various generalizations and modifications of these problems. The
main tool of our research is the Fourier transform.
