Limits of tangent spaces on singular spaces

Abstract: Given a singular point x of a complex analytic set X, the set
of limiting positions of the tangent spaces at non singular points of X
tending to x is a natural invariant of the geometry of the germ (X,x),
much richer than the tangent cone. It is a projective algebraic variety
and I will explain how one can compute it, at least in principle, from
local equations of X. I will also present a part of its role in the
classification of singularities, and if time permits discuss its
connexion with resolution of singularities.
