Oscillators: Resonances and Excitations
Abstract: A mathematical model for a periodically forced pendulum
striking a barrier is developed. Investigation into experimental data
and numerical simulation provides evidence of a non-monotone period
function. The non-monotonicity allows for a greater range of $(1:1)$-
resonances with the periodic forcing than the forced free-swinging
pendulum. Non-monotonicity is proven for the system $\ddot{x}+f(x)+
\gamma H(x)g(x)=0$ with assumptions on $f$ and $g$ where $H$ is the
Heaviside function.
