Structure of the class and grading:

MWF classes will be taught by Alex Iosevich. TTh classes will be taught by Maxim Zinchenko. The grade in the class will be based on three mid-term exams, daily quizzes, and a final examination. A quiz will be given during the first 10-15 minutes of every MWF class. Collectively, the quizzes are worth %30 of the grade. The lowest two scores will be dropped. Collectively, the midterm examinations are worth %30 of the grade. Each midterm will be held in the evening and will be two hours long. The lowest of the three scores will be dropped. The three hour long final examination is worth the remaining %40 of the grade. A score of %90 or above on the final results in a one grade increase of the final letter grade. Homework will be assigned but not collected or graded. However, homework problems will frequently appear on quizzes. Problems will sometimes be repeated on quizzes and midterms.

Solutions to quizzes and midterms will be posted on this web page in .pdf format. Please let me know immediately if you any trouble downloading the materials and I will make alternate arrangements.

Important remarks:

This is a notoriously difficult class, both for Mizzou undergraduate and graduate students. You need to study daily. I recommend putting up a poster in your room saying: IF I DID NOT STUDY ADVANCED CALCULUS TODAY, I AM DIGGING A HOLE FOR MYSELF!!! I will give out a small amount of extra credit points if you make such a poster, show it to me, and promise to put it up in your room. The designer of the most creative poster will receive a prize to be determined. You need to study for this class every single day, including Saturdays and Sundays. If you feel lost in the class at any point, you should raise your hand immediately. If you still feel lost at the end of class, you should come to see me and/or Maxim immediately. If you work hard, you will do well, but if you do not, you are very likely to do very badly.
