Dr. Godefroy

Voila! Professor Gilles Godefroy is spending the academic year at MU - for the fifth time. "Columbia is my home away from home," he says.

Godefroy, who has many joint papers with members of the analysis group, especially Nigel Kalton, is directeur de recherches au CNRS in Paris and a member of the Equipe d'Analyse of Paris VI. He first came to Columbia for a year in 1985, then returned in 1987, 1990 and 1993.

His research areas include functional analysis, geometry of Banach spaces, harmonic analysis, and descriptive set theory. He has worked with several medical doctors on the impact of Alzheimer's disease on the geometry of neurons in the cortex. His book on the history of mathematics is nearing completion.
