Most of Nigel Kalton's last papers were devoted to non-linear geometry of Banach spaces. Needless to say, his seminal work deeply transformed the whole field, and set the foundations for further developments. Along these lines, we will display some recent progress on the understanding of the so-called Lipschitz free spaces $\cal{F}(M)$, which are the natural preduals of spaces of Lipschitz functions on pointed metric spaces $M$.
