The Sato-Tate group associated to the curve y^2=x^{2g+2}-a

An introduction to Sato-Tate groups will be given and we will discuss recent work from the Arizona Winter School (2016).  For each integer g at least 2 we  discuss work to identify the Sato-Tate group associated to the curve y^2=x^{2g+2}-a. For specific curves, we will determine the identity component of the Sato-Tate group and will discuss work to generalize these results.
